New England Apple Bars
1 1/2 cups
dried apples, chopped
1 1/2 cups
Flour, All-purpose
1/2 tsp
Baking Soda
1/2 tsp
Cinnamon
1/4 tsp
Nutmeg
1/4 tsp
Salt
1/2 cup
Butter or margarine
3/4 cup
Brown sugar, packed

Eggs
1/2 cup
Apple Butter
1/2 cup
Walnuts, chopped
Pour enough boiling water over apple bits to cover, then let stand
for 5 minutes. Drain.
Meanwhile, stir together flour, baking soda, spices and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, beat butter or margarine until softened. Add brown
sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and apple butter; continue to beat mixture
well. Add flour mixture, mix thoroughly.
Stir in drained fruit and nuts. Spread into greased
13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until done.
Cool. Sift powdered sugar over cookies and cut into bars. Make 36
Apple Bars.
